This Week in Tribeca: October 5

Four shows open in Tribeca this week, from three generations of Wyeths on Broadway to a Korean group show paired with writers. Two exhibitions close on Saturday, and Ortuzar on White Street hosts a panel on Wednesday.

Opening this week

Spotlight: N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth opens today, Monday Oct 5, at Schoelkopf Gallery, 390 Broadway, 3rd Floor. It brings together work by three generations of the Wyeth family, through Oct 31.

MacGuffin: Five Korean Artists and Five Writers from Art Omi opens Thursday Oct 8 at Space ZeroOne, 371 Broadway, with an opening reception that day. The show pairs five emerging Korean artists with five writers from Art Omi's literary residency. Through Dec 19.

Marco Maggi, Higher Perplexity, opens Thursday Oct 8 at Bienvenu Steinberg & C, 35 Walker St. The gallery calls it Maggi's 11th solo show in New York: abstract work built from linear pathways that recall circuit boards and aerial views. The opening reception is a brunch on Saturday Oct 10, 12 to 4pm. Through Nov 14.

Joseph Cohen, To Be Here, opens Friday Oct 9 at Friedrichs Pontone, 273 Church St, with a reception with the artist from 6 to 8pm. The new paintings are built from accumulated marks, and some use carbon nanotubes that fluoresce in short-wave infrared. Through Nov 14.

Last chance

Saturday Oct 10 is the final day for Julia Bland, If Blue is a Holy Color, and Antone Könst, Curtsy, at Derek Eller Gallery, 38 Walker St. Bland's pieces are hand-woven and dyed textiles worked with oil paint and gold leaf. The same day closes Alice Tippit, Blue State, and Lucy Puls, Righting, at Nicelle Beauchene, 7 Franklin Pl, where Puls shows altered photographs from foreclosed homes, treated with resin and minerals.

One pick

Claire Falkenstein, San Francisco, Paris, Rome, at Ortuzar, 5 White St. The gallery has gathered about twenty works, many not seen since the 1950s, that follow the sculptor from San Francisco to postwar Paris and Rome. On Wednesday Oct 7, from 4:30 to 6:30pm, Ortuzar hosts a panel on Falkenstein with David Evans Frantz of the Claire Falkenstein Foundation, art historian Marin R. Sullivan and artist Arlene Shechet. The show runs through Oct 31.
